Drug Distribution
Drug Distribution
Distribution crime tends to operate on a much smaller scale then drug trafficking. When it comes to the distribution of drugs, there are two types of layouts. A hierarchical arrangement involves the manufacturer who will generally use his/her own men to smuggle, store, and distribute the narcotics. Smuggling tends to involve small boats and yachts, air vehicles, and gangs paid with some of the merchandise. The other drug distribution layout is called hub-and-spoke. This arrangement typically utilizes local criminal organizations for the distribution of drugs.
When charging a person with distribution, law enforcement will probably look at the following factors to determine an appropriate sentence: prior similar convictions, all prior convictions, if the offender is currently on probation or parole, attitude of community in relation to this type of crime, media attention, and aggravating circumstances. State and federal distribution laws vary by jurisdiction.
Distribution is considered one of the more serious drug crimes and is prosecuted severely. Distribution is usually charged as a felony offense. Punishments for distribution include, but are not limited to: fines, imprisonment, probation, house arrest, community service, drug testing, registration as a narcotics offender, loss of drivers license, and forced rehabilitation.
