Drug Transportation
Drug Transportation
Drug transportation is the movement of illegal narcotics from one place to another. It can involve driving illegal drugs from one house to another, moving drugs across a state border, or even shipping narcotics into another country. If a person transports illegal narcotics across state borders or into another country, they will be charged with a drug distribution offense, and the offense will be prosecuted under the Federal Law. In the United States, illegal drugs include: marijuana, cannabis, hashish, opium, cocaine, crack cocaine, LSD, Ecstasy, PCP, morphine, steroids, and/or Meth.
When charging a person with drug transportation, law enforcement will probably look at the following factors to determine an appropriate sentence: prior similar convictions, all prior convictions, if the offender is currently on probation or parole, attitude of community in relation to this type of crime, media attention, and aggravating circumstances. They will also take into consideration the type of drug transported, quantity, geographic area of distribution, and whether minors were sold to or targeted.
Drug distribution/transportation laws can implicate a single person or a broad ring of people involved in organized illegal drug activity. Drug transportation is considered one of the more serious drug crimes and is prosecuted severely. Punishments for transportation include, but are not limited to: fines, imprisonment, probation, house arrest, community service, drug testing, registration as a narcotics offender, loss of drivers license, seizure of offenders automobile, and forced rehabilitation.
