Indecent Exposure

Indecent exposure laws in most states make it a crime for a person to purposefully display their genitals in public, so that alarm is caused or so that others are offended. The offender usually seeks sexual gratification through this act, and sexual assault can result if any physical contact is made. More specific cases of indecent exposure are masturbation and sexual intercourse in public.

Indecent Exposure is a sex crime and it is usually considered a misdemeanor offense. If an offender exposes his/herself in the presence of a minor (a person under the age of consent), they may encounter harsher legal consequences. In extreme instances, an indecent exposure conviction can lead to the offender having to register with their jurisdictions sex offender registry. A conviction of this sort can affect a person for years to come, including their future employment and housing possibilities.
