Former New Brunswick Housing Rehabilitation Head Charged with Tax Evasion in New Jersey

In Newark, New Jersey 36 year old William Walker of Pennsauken was recently charged with tax evasion.  Walker is the former director of housing rehabilitation for the city of New Brunswick.

After being charged and pleading guilty, Walker was sentenced with 87 months imprisonment for both tax evasion and extortion.

Walker pled guilty on April 30, 2008 and told police that he had accepted bribes from two separate contractors and also that he had failed to report over $112,000 in corrupt cash payments on his income taxes.

Sentencing took place on December 10, and was delivered by U.S. District Judge, Harold Ackerman.  Judge Ackerman ordered Walker to make full restitution to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, which is responsible for subsidizing the New Brunswick housing program.

Walker was told to surrender himself to police by February 12th.  He will immediately begin serving his prison sentence at that time.
