Illinois Sex Offender Sent Back to Prison

Nathaniel L. Chambers, a 38 year old Illinois resident, has recently been sent back to prison in Stateville and will be serving a 4 year term.  Chambers was arrested after he failed to follow legal procedures 4 separate times after he was found guilty of molesting a teen 11 years ago.  He was sent back to Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois last week after he failed to inform authorities of his status as a sexual predator when he moved to Downers Grove.

When a person is convicted of a sex crime in the state of Illinois, he or she must contact his or her local police agency whenever he or she has a legal change of address.  Failure to notify authorities is a direct breech of the Illinois Child Sex Offender Act, which allows police to compile sex offender's names and related information into a state police database.

On December 1st, Chambers was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender in DuPage County Circuit Court.  He was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for his violation.

Police report that Chambers was arrested on June 3th in Downers Grove when officers saw him standing on 63rd and Main streets.  One of the officers recognized Chambers and knew that he was a sex offender.   When the officers asked Chambers for his address, he gave them illegitimate information.   Shortly after, officers arrested him for failing to register.

In 1997, Chambers was arrested and sentenced to 3 years in prison for sex crimes he committed against a 16 year old victim.  He was 25 at the time the crimes occurred.
