Machete Murder Trial to Begin in Alaska

Today, in Anchorage, Alaska, jurors in Palmer heard opening statements in the trial of a 29 year old man named Christopher Erin Rogers Jr.

Rogers was charged with murder after he killed his father with a machete and assaulted his father's fiancée.  The assault and murder occurred just over a year ago.

Prosecutors overseeing the case allege that after Rogers committed the murder, he drove to Anchorage and shot 4 more people, killing two instantaneously.  He is still facing a trial, which is set for January, for the other shootings.  Prosecutors intend to prove that Rogers is a bad man who intentionally committed horrendous crimes.

Palmer District Attorney, Roman Kalytiak, asserts that Rogers had intended to kill his father's fiancée, Elan Moren and that the only difference between the two crimes is that Moren lived, the father didn't.
