California Domestic Violence Case Results in Shooting

In Stockton, California, a 60 year old man is in critical condition and is receiving continual medical treatment after being shot this past Sunday.  The man was shot several times by a neighbor after he caused a domestic violence attack.

The man, named Alcide Doucet, is reported to have went to the home of a 43 year old woman at 1:50 AM on Sunday.  Doucet reportedly kicked in the door and struck the woman with his fists and a handgun.

A 42 year old neighbor heard screaming and other noises coming from the woman's house and immediately went to help, according to police reports.  The neighbor, whose identity is being withheld, knew that problems existed between Doucet and the woman.

After entering the woman's home, the neighbor claims that he saw Doucet holding the woman by the hair and rasing his hand with the gun in it.   The neighbor asked Doucet to stop what he was doing several times, but Doucet instead turned the gun on the neighbor and fired once.

The neighbor, having his own gun, fired back at Doucet and was able to shoot him several times in the upper body.  Shortly after, police were called and the neighbor and the woman both received treatment for non-critical wounds.  Doucet was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery for his serious wounds.

Doucet is likely to face felony domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon charges once he is released from the hospital.  Police indicate that the neighbor will not be subjected to criminal charges as he was trying to defend and protect the woman.
