Chicago Police Officer Kills Daughter and Self, Injures Son

An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and killed his young daughter, and critically wounded his young son before talking his own life.

Monique Bond, a Police Department spokeswoman, said police responded to a call at the officer's home after shots were fired. Upon their arrival, a woman outside of the officer's home told police that she heard shots being fired, and that children were inside.

When SWAT officers went into the home, they discovered the dead officer and his two children, and immediately rushed them to the hospital. The 12-year-old son of the officer remains in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cook County.

According to police, the shooting stemmed from an argument between the officer and his wife.

The officer's slain daughter was only 7 or 8 years old; her age has not yet been confirmed. The officer, whose name has not been released, was 33.
