Four Gang Members Arrested for Stealing Marijuana Plants

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing 23 marijuana plants from a backyard garden in Santa Rosa, Calif.  All four suspects were arrested on suspension of grand theft, conspiracy, and possession of marijuana. A fifth suspect was involved in the crime, but police could not find him after he fled from the corner of Jose Avenue and Josefa Street. According to Sgt. Steve Fraga, all four of the arrested suspects are known gang members.

According to an article on the Press Democrat's website, witnesses claim they saw several men climbing a fence near the home, and hauling the freshly cut plants to a nearby parked car. The four suspects were taken into police custody after police interrupted the theft, said Fraga.

According to the article, residents in the home said they had seen people circling the neighborhood for about a week. "Either they sniffed it out or had seen it," said one resident who asked not to be identified.

The owner of the home had a permit to grow the marijuana plants for medicinal use.  Residents said the plants, which were being grown to assist a family member suffering from knee and back pain, were four to six weeks away from harvest.
