Silicon Valley Battles Juvenile Crime

Recently in from KCBS - Santa Clara County is spearheading a campaign that was created to combat instances of both violent crimes and juvenile crimes.  The campaign targets juveniles who partake in violent, destructive crimes.  In the past several years, Santa Clara County has seen an increase in these types of cases, which has led to officials taking action.

The county has adopted a nation wide program known as The Parent Project.  The Parent Project helps parents deal with children who are out of control.

According to District Attorney Dolores Carr, the program has, "really been proven in the communities that have implemented it to be successful in actually not only cutting down on juvenile crime, but also cutting down on the number of calls law enforcement has to go to for those families where parents are just fed up, don't know what to do ...to manage their children."

Carr's office is sponsoring the program which will help facilitate good relationships between parents and children, as well as teaching parents better techniques when dealing with their minors.

With the new program in place, it is expected that the juvenile crime rate will drop for the county.
