White Collar Crime - Man Convicted Of 22 Counts in Santa Clara County

Local Wire reports that a 49 year old was recently convicted of 22 felony white collar crime counts in Santa Clara County, CA.  According to the deputy district attorney, the man will be sentenced in October 2008.

The 49 year old man, Moses Joseph, was prosecuted for stealing nearly 20 million dollars from 13 separate victims in California.  According to Local Wire, Joseph stole funds while, "working as the manager of Palo Alto-based venture capital fund Anila Fund, Joseph began forming shell companies and seeking investments and loans for one company known as PowerWAN, Inc."

In order to fund his illegal activities, Moses Joseph would obtain money from several different financial institutions and victims throughout California.  Joseph often times exaggerated the amount of his own finances in order to deceive the individuals he targeted.  He also would create false bank statements, counterfeit documents, and forge signatures.

The laws in California surrounding white collar crimes are very harsh, so it is likely that Joseph will receive the maximum sentence.  Moses Joseph is scheduled to be sentenced on October 24 and could face up to 28 years in state prison and be ordered to pay his victims restitution.
