5 Employees Charged with Embezzlement in Mississippi

In Jackson, Mississippi, 5 employees of the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) have been arrested and charged with embezzlement, fraudulently obtaining public funds, making false entries in public records and conspiracy.  All charges are serious white collar criminal offenses that could lead to the employees having to spend time in jail and paying restitution if they are convicted.

Stacey Pickering, the State Auditor, says that the employees were arrested today.  They all worked at the MDOT office in Yazoo City.  All 5 were indicted by a grand jury earlier this month.  The indictment occurred after the conclusion of an investigation, which had been ongoing since 2007.

James Kevin Ellis (35), Gene Edward Taylor (35), Clarence Shelton (56), Ivory Luckett (51) and James D. Malone (53) have been listed as the offenders.  Aside from criminal conviction, Mr. Pickering's office is seeking restitution from $200 - $4,500 from each of the defendants.
