Mother Charged with Child Neglect in Florida

In Stuart, Florida, police are reporting that they recently charged a mother with child neglect.  According to a filed affidavit, the mother supposedly allowed her to children to roam through a video store while unattended.

36 year old Metsy Annselia Green told the police that she had brought her children, ages 2 and 10, to accompany her while she worked at her cleaning job.  The children had become bored, so she told them to go inside of a Blockbuster video store just Southeast of U.S. 1.  She said that she thought they could look around and occupy their time instead of waiting for her to finish her work.

In a video provided by Blockbuster, the children are seen entering the store at 11:47 AM.  They walked around unsupervised and unattended until 12:56 PM, when Green came to pick them up.  An employee at the store contacted police, who arrested Green when she arrived.

After one police officer interviewed the 10 year old, he concluded that the child was not mature enough to watch his younger sibling, who was in a stroller for a long period of time.  Green was booked at the Martin County Jail and was then released after she posted a $2,500 bond.
