Cincinnati Man Sentenced with 35 Years to Life for Child Sex Offenses

Today, Ohio news sources are reporting that 34 year old John Mucher Hamilton has been sentenced with 35 years to life in prison for the sex crimes he committed with a child.  The girl was 3 years old when the sexual abuse occurred and it lasted until she reached 7 years of age.  Police allege that Hamilton repeatedly raped the girl and even went as far as to video tape his sex acts with the victim.  He was charged with statutory rape and 32 counts of child video pornography.

The judge presiding over the case, Judge Patricia Oney, ordered the sentence in the Butler County Common Pleas Court this afternoon.  Earlier, Hamilton had pled guilty to six counts of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition against the young victim.  The girl has since moved out of the state of Ohio.

Hamilton's defense attorneys told the court that Hamilton was molested throughout his youth.  They said that it is not an excuse for the their client's behavior, but does add some context to the sex crimes he committed.   They also claimed that when a person has been molested during their childhood, he/she is more likely to molest other children.

Hamilton apologized to the court and wept as he tried to justify his actions.  However, the child's grandfather said that despite Hamilton's supposed remorse, he felt Hamilton must have been proud of his crimes because "he videotaped it and everything."

Prosecutors that represented the state said that the videos Hamilton created were some of the worst child pornography videos they had ever seen.   Additionally, they revealed that while some of the tapes involved the victim, others showed unknown child victims that they think may have been downloaded from the internet.
