Detroit Teen Charged with Assault

Detroit area news sources recently reported that a 17 year old boy residing in Ann Arbor is set to appear in court today.  The boy was recently charged with killing his girlfriend's rabbit after they got into violent confrontation.  The boy is alleged to have taken a baseball bat and to have attacked the girl's pet, killing it instantaneously.

The boy and his 19 year old girlfriend lived together in her family's home, which is located on Brokkridge.  At 10 AM this past Sunday, the boyfriend and girlfriend got into a fight because the girlfriend had smashed the boys drug paraphernalia.  Once the boy found out he became enraged and resorted to violence.  He is alleged to have killed the rabbit at midnight and then to have assaulted his girlfriend shortly after.  The girl managed to call local law enforcement and they arrived at the scene and placed the boy under arrest for assault.  He was placed in jail and remains there at this time.

Police report that the young man is a senior at Ann Arbor High School and he is expected to appear in the 15th District Court for violent crime, assault and domestic violence charges.  The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office is deciding what animal cruelty offenses the boy will be charged with in addition to his other criminal offenses.
