Evangelist Convicted of Sex Crimes in Arkansas

Today, Tony Alamo was convicted by a federal jury in Texarkana, Arkansas.  Alamo, an Evangelist, was accused of taking underage girls across state lines for sexual purposes.

This morning, the jury issued its judgment in federal court.  They found Alamo, who is 74 years of age, guilty on all criminal counts.  Alamo faced a 10 count indictment and was accused of taking girls, as young as 9 years old, across state lines since 1994.

After accusations and allegations were made, FBI agents in Arkansas searched Alamo's home in September.  They looked for child pornography and further evidence of sex crimes, which led to Alamo being arrested 5 days later.

Alamo fervently denied all charges.  He claimed that the charges stemmed from a Vatican-led conspiracy against his ministry.  He was well-known for his hatred of the Vatican and for his fear of a "one-world government".  Many is his community regard his ministry as a "cult", including the Southern Poverty Law Center.
