Chicago Woman Hospitalized after DUI Accident

In Chicago, Illinois, news sources are reporting that a 23 year old woman from the Park Ridge community has been hospitalized.  The young lady was admitted into an Illinois hospital after she was struck by a man who was driving under the influence this past week.  According to police, the drunk driver ran a red light and crashed head on into the victim's vehicle.

The DUI offender, 51 year old John M. Monsen, was charged with multiple criminal offenses, including driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, disobeying a red light, driving without insurance and driving with an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

Police report that Monsen had been driving east on Oakton Street at around 10:30 AM this past Saturday.  Instead of yielding to a red light, he drove straight through it and struck the victim's vehicle, which had been traveling south bound on Prospect Avenue.  When law enforcement arrived at the scene of the accident, they had to extricate the victim from her automobile.  She was immediately rushed to Lutheran General Hospital, which is located in Park Ridge.
