Ex-FBI Agent Found Guilty for Theft Scheme

In Orange County, CA, a former FBI agent was convicted this morning for his involvement in a criminal scheme.  According to reports, the ex-agent planned to raid a drug house in Orange County and steal the drug money from inside the residence.   However, federal agents had been suspicious of the former agent for some time, so they had created a sting operation to catch him.  The residence in Orange County was merely a fictitious part of the bust.

The agent, 44 year old Vo Duong Tran of New Orleans, was convicted this morning by a jury in a U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, CA.  The jury deliberated for one day before they announced their verdict.

In July, Tran was arrested after he was accused of planning the raid of what he believed was a drug house in Fountain Valley, California.  Prosecutors claimed that Tran was meticulous while planning the raid and had even armed himself with a bullet proof vest, handguns with silencers, assault rifles and 630 rounds of ammunition.  According to reports, Tran believed that the drug house was supposed to have over $500,000 in cash, which he intended to steal.

Tran was not the only defendant who was convicted for involvement in the elaborate scheme.  36 year old Yu Sung Park of Chicago was also found guilty for his role in the fake drug bust.  Both men were convicted of conspiracy to obstruct commerce by robbery, interstate travel to commit a crime with a firearm, possession in furtherance of a crime and possession of a machine gun.
