Oklahoma Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty & Burglary; Other Suspect Still at Large

An Oklahoma man has been arrested for burglary and for beating a 12-pound dog.

Melvin Prince, Jr., 18, was arrested for burglary and cruelty to animals for his role in a burglary that took place in February at a home in Akron.  Because he was a minor at the time the crime took place, he is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Lewis Napoleon, Jr., 22, for his involvement in the crime as well. Napoleon is also wanted for burglary, theft, and cruelty to animals.  In addition, he also faces federal weapons charges and is believed to be armed, at large, and dangerous.

Police say the men broke into the home and stole several items and severely beat the family's Shih Tzu.  The dog had to be put to sleep.

Police believe there may be a third suspect.

The dog's owner, Paulette Hixenbaugh, is seeking justice for her dog, offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the crime.  An anonymous donor has also agreed to match Hixenbaugh's $5,000 reward.
