Indiana Pharmacist Charged with Prescription Fraud

In Hanover, Indiana, a pharmacist was recently charged with altering a prescription.  The pharmacist, 35 year old James W. Sedam Jr., had obtained his prescription from a doctor in Charleston before he made alterations.

After his arrest, Sedam was charged with four felonies, including:  class C felony forgery, class D felony possession of a controlled substance and 2 counts of class D felony Legend Drug violation.  He was investigated for a month prior to his arrest by the Indiana State Police Drug Diversion Unit.

Police report that Sedam surrendered himself this past weekend at the Jefferson County Jail.  Police had become suspicious of Sedam after he had a prescription for Lortab filled at Madison Apothecary.  They then decided to contact the doctor who wrote the prescription.  The doctor told police that he had not written a prescription for Lortab, which is a highly addictive pain killer.

Sedam's initial hearing is expected to take place next week.
