Man Sentenced to 75 Years for 1996 Rape

Beaumont, Texas - recently, a man was sentenced to 75 years imprisonment after a DNA match revealed he was the sexual offender involved in a 1996 rape case.  The man, 31 year old Jason Baice, is already in prison for previous attacks.

According to prosecutors, Baice was sentenced this past Monday after entering a plea in November to his aggravated sexual assault charges. Police report that Baice kidnapped a woman by approaching her car and holding her at gunpoint.  The victim currently resides in Houston.

Baice is already serving a 15 year prison sentence for aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping convictions from 1998.  Prior to his conviction, law enforcement obtained a DNA sample from him, which they added to their offender database.

In November 2007, the rape victim from 1996 contacted police to find out the status of her cold case.  Police had collected DNA from her after sexual assault occurred and still had the results on file.  When they updated testing, they found that the DNA from her case matched Jason Baice.  They were then able to bring aggravated sexual assault charges against him.
