Calif. Man Arrested for Horse Theft

There's been an interesting case of theft in Riverside County, California.

Police have arrested a man suspected of stealing three miniature horses (two of them were pregnant) and one miniature donkey.

Police were able to locate the stolen donkey at a property in the city of Good Hope. There they found and arrested the suspect, Daniel Salvador Paniagua. Paniagua then led investigators to the location of the three stolen horses, which were sold for $1,500 to a ranch in Mira Loma. Investigators believe the horses were going to be taken to Mexico. All of the horses were found in good condition.

Paniagua's crime likely warrants grand theft charges. While the threshold between grand theft and petty theft changes from state to state, in general grand theft charges are filed when the value of the stolen goods is $300 or $400 or more. It's advisable for anyone facing grand theft charges to contact an experienced criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible. The sooner an attorney can begin investigating the charges and putting together a defense, the more time they'll have to ensure the case is as strong and compelling as possible.
