Man Charged with Attempted Murder for Crashing Into Officer

An Orange County, California man is back in police custody after he intentionally crashed his vehicle head-on into a police cruiser with an officer inside.

The suspect was stopped on the opposite of the intersection, facing the officer. According to Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, video survellaince shows that when the light turned green, the suspect was planning to make a left turn, but changed direction and rammed his car head-first into officer’s car, who was still stopped at the red light. Amormino said there were no skid marks on the road, which indicates the suspect intended to crash into the officer’s car.

After the accident, the officer struggled to get out of his vehicle, but was able to place handcuffs on the suspect, later identified as David Arauho Reyes. Reyes surrendered without incident.

Amormino said the officer was taken to a local hospital and received treatment for his injuries. Reyes, an illegal immigrant who has been arrested and deported in the past, was charged with attempted murder of a police officer. He is currently being held without bail at the Santa Ana jail.
