DUI Offender Crashes into California Jail Will Serve Jail Time

Newport Beach, California - it is reported that a man who drove his Mercedes through the gates of a California jail will now have to serve time in jail.  After driving under the influence and crashing, the man was sentenced with imprisonment this week.

According to the district attorney's office, 25 year old Matthew Van McDaniel was sentenced with nine years in state prison for drunk driving and causing damage to property. 

Police say that on January 10th, McDaniel was driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14%.  While driving drunk, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into James Musick Correctional Facility. An officer tried to restrain him when McDaniel punched the officer in the face, breaking his nose.

McDaniel pled guilty to a felony count of aggravated assault of an office, one count of being an ex-convict entering a correctional facility and misdemeanor counts of DUI and reckless driving.
