Man Convicted of Manslaughter after 2009 DUI

On Friday, a man by the name of Edward Cook was convicted of manslaughter as well as aggravated DUI. The man caused a crash in 2009 that led to the death of another man who had been walking his dog at the time of the accident.

Cook also faced charges of first-degree murder, but was found not guilty. The judge presiding over Cook's case, T. Jordan Gallagher, convicted the defendant of 11 counts of reckless homicide, 15 counts of aggravated DUI, one count of unlawful possession of a converted motor vehicle and numerous traffic violations.

According to reports, the accident took place on June 29, 2009. Cook was driving drunk and operating a car that he did not have permission to drive when he hit and killed the victim. Police say that at the time of the DUI accident, Cook was speeding and had both marijuana and cocaine in his system.
