Domestic Violence Incident Requires SWAT Intervention

A domestic violence incident became so serious that the SWAT team was dispatched to intervene.

According to police reports a 40-year-old man was taken into custody on charges of criminal domestic assault with a high and aggravated nature. The victim, his girlfriend, was at their home on Johns Island when he started to fight with her. It began in the bedroom and quickly moved to the kitchen, where he reportedly hit her in the face with a foot stool. He then wrestled her to the ground and refused to let her go; luckily, the victim was able to escape and run for help.

Emergency medical technicians took her to MUSC for her mouth injuries. A separate call was dispatched to the sheriff's office, saying that the man was at his home with a gun. When he refused to leave the house, the SWAT team entered and detained him. He is now being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
