James Holmes Attends First Hearing for 'Dark Knight' Shooting

The nation has mourned the deaths of 12 patrons who attended the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises at a theater in Colorado, and the injuries of 58 who were also in the showing. According to reports, 24-year-old James Holmes is suspected of sneaking into the theatre with four guns and shooting at patrons for entertainment. Holmes opened fire during a shooting scene in the movie, claiming that he was The Joker. The assailant dyed his hair a bright comic-book orange to further imitate the character that he wanted to be.

When the arrested assailant walked into the court room on Monday The Washington Post says that he looked more like a juvenile delinquent than a super villain. Holmes barely moved or spoke the entire trial. He sat in his jail-issued clothes with his multi-colored hair and stared blankly in front of him. Observers say that the killer looked incredibly lethargic. He has not been officially charged but he is refusing to cooperate with investigators. A police chief told the press that Holmes is refusing to talk. At the court room, he spit on police as he was ushered in and acted in a bizarre and slightly demonic demeanor.

One U.S. attorney for the district of Aurora says that there is no doubt that the man is disturbed. They are not sure whether or not he is mentally. Reports also show that Holmes was recently kicked out of his girlfriend’s apartment when she broke up with him. In his own apartment, he had explosives rigged and ready to explode if investigators made a wrong move. The courts will continue to probe the Holmes case, and the killer could face life in prison or the death sentenced if convicted.
