Man Attempts to Rob Bank of $1 in Order to Receive Prison Sentence

Jeffery McMullen isn’t a man of criminal intent, but he did want to head to a nearby federal prison in Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania so he decided to commit a crime for that reason. McMullen walked into AmeriServ bank, where he has been a loyal customer for years. He demanded two tellers to give him one dollar and said that he was robbing the bank.

At first, tellers thought that it was a joke, but McMullen insisted. He said that he wanted the dollar so that he could be taken to a local prison. Police are still not certain why McMullen was desperate to enter the prison but assume that he has a loved one somewhere in the institution. McMullen wanted a federal prosecution and was willing to plead guilty so that he could reside in the prison for the duration of his sentence.

Unfortunately, McMullen’s plan backfired, and he is being held in a local jail instead. The police say that they want McMullen to undergo a mental evaluation and post a $50,000 in order to win release from the jail. 50-year-old McMullen’s note was retrieved from the scene of the crime. It stated “Federal bank robbery. Please hand over $1.00.” While McMullen has yet to achieve his passage to prison, he will have a trial where he will be evaluated for his crime.
