Man in Prison for Girlfriend's Death, Pleads Guilty to Murdering Prior Girlfriend

As reported by the Huffington Post, a man in prison for killing his girlfriend has admitted to killing another girlfriend, in a case gone cold since 1989, who he knew was six weeks pregnant before he beheaded her.

V.B.'s body was found however her head has never been located. Prosecutors were unable to charge P.W. at the time due to a lack of evidence.

Last year P.W., 46, pleaded guilty to murdering V.B. on the roof of a Manhattan apartment building. He has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

P.W., already serving a prison term for killing his last girlfriend, will serve both sentences consecutively.

The second woman he killed became his girlfriend shortly after V.B.'s murder.

V.B. and P.W. had two children prior to her death. It is believed that he confessed in an effort to have a better relationship with his children.

At P.W.'s sentencing V.B.'s sister told the judge, "I am haunted by thoughts of what she must have felt in her last moments. I wish I could hug her again, talk to her, hear her voice and see her lovely face. She was my best friend. To die is one thing, but to die like that is the worst thing I can think of; it's inhuman."

V.B. and P.W. had met while they were teens living in a group foster home. The relationship, including incidents of domestic violence according to Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Lederer, had ended when V.B. made the decision to move out of their shared apartment.

As the couple's children continued to reside in the apartment with P.W., V.B. went there to visit them. It was during one of these visits that she was killed.

According to Lederer, P.W. killed V.B. as he believed that he was not the father of the child she carried. V.B. assured P.W. that the baby was his, however, he lured her to the roof – a place they had first had sex – then he beat and stabbed her with a dagger as she cried out that she was "sorry."

The stabbing, when P.W. exchanged the dagger for a kitchen knife, resulted in V.B.'s beheading.

During his confession P.W. told investigators that he had buried V.B.'s head in Riverside Park. The cold case detectives took P.W. to the area of the park he thought he had buried V.B.'s head – 24 years ago – but they were unable to locate it.

In 1994 V.B. fatally shot his girlfriend, S.J., in front of her 11 year-old daughter. The three had been living together in a home in a New York suburb. After killing S.J. V.B. raped her daughter. He is currently serving 20 years to life for those crimes.

Cold case units "whose persistence and dedication to seeking justice for the victim and her family", according to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr., led to V.B.'s conviction.
