Alleged Murderers Joined By Third In Aftermath Of North Carolina Home Invasion
Authorities investigating a recent break-in that led to the shooting death of a victim say that they believe a third man to have been involved in the incident. The first two suspects are joined by their alleged accomplice in Alamance County Jail, where they are being held without bond.
According to the initial reports filed by law enforcement officers involved in the case, police were called in to investigate a break-in at an apartment complex in Burlington on Saturday, February 4th. Witnesses had called police at around 6:00 pm, indicating that they had heard gunshots being fired in one of the apartments, located at 1408 Stout Street. Upon their arrival, investigators discovered a 21-year old woman, believed to have been the apartment’s current occupant, suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was rushed to nearby Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment, where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Police believe that the suspects shot her when she attempted to resist the robbery.
First Suspect Turns Self In To Police Shortly After Incident
Law enforcement officers said they were told by eyewitnesses that two men had entered the apartment shortly before the shots were fired. Not long after the incident, the first of the suspects turned himself into police custody.
The twenty-two year old man was joined shortly by a second alleged accomplice. The second suspect, a twenty-three year old local, was arrested on Wednesday February 8th. Only after this arrest did investigators learn that a third man was allegedly involved in the robbery-turned-shooting. They arrested this last suspect a day later, and have charged all three men with first-degree murder. Prosecutors have not yet said if they will add a robbery charge on top of the murder offense.
