Law Enforcement Officers Kill Murder Suspect In Fort Myers Home

A man, identified by police as BRR, was sought in connection with two murders in the Fort Myers area. He had evaded pursuit for several weeks, before being gunned down during his attempted apprehension in early August. Police claim they shot him in self-defense after he brandished a weapon.

According to details given to reporters in the aftermath of the shooting, the manhunt had been ongoing since July, when BRR was named a suspect in the murder of a local Florida woman found dead in her home. Authorities believe the suspect and another man were attempting to rob the victim's home when something went wrong, and she ended up being killed by the two burglars. Her boyfriend, with whom she lived, found her with a slashed throat the next day. Authorities arrested the second man, but were unable to locate BRR.

A Task Force consisting of members of the Fort Myers Police Department, deputies with the Collier County, Lee County, and Charlotte County Sheriff's Departments, and several U.S. Marshals was put together to track the alleged murderer. He was eventually connected with a second murder, of a sixty-one year old man living in northern Fort Myers.

Anonymous Tip Alerts Police To Location Of Fugitive

Shortly after the discovery of the second murder, Task Force members received information through a tip hotline that pointed them in the direction of their man. According to reports, BRR was spotted in the area of Laurel Drive, a place investigators had already flagged as a potential hiding spot.

Upon searching the area, several deputies located the suspect sitting by the window of a home in the 1200 block of Laurel Drive. They moved quickly, surrounding the area and attempting to apprehend him. Allegedly, BRR pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the approaching deputies. The officers opened fire, shooting and killing the suspect.

When informed of the incident, the first victim's boyfriend told reporters that he was glad the man had been brought to justice. Still, he said, there was no peace or resolution for the victims.
