A Detroit police officer was directing traffic when he was struck by a car. The 17-year veteran officer was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his serious injuries and died. It was found that the man, S.M., was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time and faces serious charges. S.M. has pleaded guilty to charges of 2nd degree murder and operating a vehicle under the influence. He could receive up to 35 years in prison at his sentencing hearing coming up in a few weeks.
