Friends & Family Shocked by Army Staff Sergeant’s Alleged Involvement in Killings

The recent high profile case involving the alleged murder of 16 Afghan civilians by a United States Army officer has people in a state of disbelief. Family, friends and neighbors of Staff Sgt. Robert Bales have come forth describing him as a smart and loyal individual. He did well in school and college and showed an internal drive to stand up for what he thought was right at an early age. After the events of Sept. 11 he enlisted in the infantry of the U.S. Army and never looked back.

This is not to say that he was a perfect person who never made mistakes. Bales had been involved in court proceedings concerning the investment firm he was part of before he joined the Army. More recently he was having financial difficulties and many of the other stresses civilians and service men and women alike have been experiencing in these economic times. Some speculate that Bales suffered some sort of mental breakdown and went on a shooting spree. Others can’t believe it was him that had anything to do with it. Army investigators continue to look into the incident while Bales awaits official charges. If you are a member of any branch of the armed services and have been charged with a crime, speak with a military criminal defense attorney immediately to ensure you have strong representation fighting for you.
