New York Police Investigate Cold Case Murder

Murder Suspect Implicated In ‘A Number Of Murders’

Investigators say they are looking into a man recently charged with four California murders which they say closely mirror three unsolved crimes in New York, CNN reports.

The suspect is a Reno man, now 77-years old, who was arrested on Monday by law enforcement officers in connection with the 1970s murders of three girls in California. The murders were considered unsolved for decades, until in 2010 a probation officer visited the Reno man in his home in Nevada and found weapons, a violation of his parole terms.

He was arrested and sentenced to a year in Nevada prison for the crime. While searching his house, however, investigators discovered writings and pictures that they said implicated him in multiple slayings of young girls, including the three California girls. When his year in jail was finished this April, he was immediately taken into custody by officers of Marin County to await his murder trial.

California Suspect Could Be Linked, Investigators Say

New York police took notice of the arrest, saying that some of the details of the crime match those of three unsolved murders in Rochester, New York. Though they have no hard evidence linking the man to the crimes, they say they are searching for any leads which could further the investigation.

Both sets of murders occurred in the 1970s, involving young girls. Most damning of all, the girls in each case all shared a peculiar similarity: their first and last names both started with the same letter. Investigators believe that these shared initials show a link between the crimes.

The police say the case is open and ongoing, and they ask that anyone with information contact them immediately.
