A 36-year-old San Antonio man, D.L., is facing serious charges after allegedly punching a man in the head resulting in death. D.L. was working at a local bar and grill when he reportedly had to handle a drunken patron. The patron was M.S., 30 years old, and had apparently become unruly. D.L. says the man threw a beer bottle over the bar at which point he was asked to leave. M.S. remained in the parking lot near the establishment's patio and so D.L. went out to again ask him to leave the area. D.L. says the man threw a punch at him and so he responded in self defense. D.L. struck the man on his temple and he fell backward onto the ground. A second employee came out and he and D.L. moved the man to the sidewalk. Authorities were called to the location where they found M.S. lying on his side on the sidewalk and snoring. The man was unresponsive when officers tried to wake him up but he was clearly breathing. M.S. was taken to a medical facility after officers became concerned about the head blow and being unable to rouse the man into consciousness. M.S. died the following afternoon. An officer reviewed surveillance camera footage at the bar and grill and reported that M.S. did not throw any punches before the employee struck him. D.L. was subsequently taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He was later released on $50,000 bond. Reports have not released medical information which state precise cause of death or if there were any other contributing factors related to alcohol consumption.
