Good Samaritan and Great Dane Foil Sexual Assault

By Leonard Matsuk  Feb. 28, 2011 8:23p

Just last month it was announced that a 14 year old girl in Connecticut was being sexually assaulted on her front porch when her cries were heard by a neighbor and his Great Dane, Scooby. Larry Smith, the 28 year old attacker, apparently grabbed the young girl on the front steps of her home after she had just exited a bus, threw her down and started to pull off her clothes. It was her struggling and screams that brought her neighbor Augustin Zamora and his dog to the girl's rescue. The attacker fled, and Augustin and Scooby went after him in pursuit. They caught up with him and held him, preventing his escape until police arrived. Smith was arrested and charged with attempted criminal sexual assault and bail was set at $200,000 at his court hearing.
