Chicago Woman Charged in Pedestrian Injury Case

By Law Offices of Mitch Furman  Nov. 12, 2012 1:50p

22-year-old C.M. was arrested recently after her car struck three young girls walking along a county road. The accident happened around 1:30 in the morning on Tuesday as C.M. was driving her sedan down the road. The three girls, all aged 13 or younger, were reportedly walking along the far right shoulder of the roadway when they were struck. Ambulances rushed the three girls to separate hospitals after they suffered serious to critical injuries including a broken ankle and severe head trauma. Authorities did not state why the three young minors were walking along the road at that hour.

C.M. remained at the scene of the accident until authorities and emergency personnel arrived. Upon questioning by police she was taken into custody and booked into county jail without bond. She was charged with driving too fast for conditions, driving with slick (balding) tires, misdemeanor marijuana possession, driving under the influence and serious injury by vehicle. The Chicago woman could be facing serious imprisonment and fines if convicted of all the charges. Additionally, should the condition of any of the girls worsen or become fatal then the charges and possible penalties could be greatly increased. Talk to a criminal defense lawyer to ensure you are fully aware of your legal options if you or someone you care about has been charged with a crime.

Criminal Defense Attorney for DUI Charges

Driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated charges can result in severe penalties if you are found guilty. Police will often use any of a number of field sobriety tests to "determine" if a driver is intoxicated by drugs or alcohol. These methods for determining a driver's fitness to operate a vehicle require the individual to perform a number of physical activities. These tests could easily be "failed" simply because the person is understandably nervous in the situation or has some other physical issue which may affect their balance or motor skills. There are exact procedures that law enforcement officials are required to adhere to when pulling over a suspected drunk driver and in making any subsequent arrest. If these procedures are not strictly followed then your rights may have been violated.
