Two Arrests and One Citation Issued In Police Follow-Up Effort

A recent grant from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety has allowed Benicia police officers to conduct a series of follow-up investigations on probationers convicted of DUI offenses, catching several in violation of the terms of their probation agreements.

The checks involved a visit to nine different residences by four Solano County probation officers and two Benicia Police Department traffic officers. The residences were chosen because the offenders in question had either been convicted of multiple DUI charges prior to the probation, or had been involved in a DUI accident that injured another or endangered a child.

Alcohol Found In Two Residences Despite Probation Agreements

Two arrests were made as a result of the investigation. A 28-year old probationer was arrested and booked into the Solano County jail after officers discovered alcohol in his residence and in his system, in violation of his parole agreement. The man had agreed to keep sober and alcohol free during the term of his probation, as well as being required to keep his house free of any alcoholic substances.

The second arrest came after the investigation officers discovered alcohol in the system of a 34-year old probationer, in violation of the terms of his probation. Law enforcement officials also discovered a glass pipe in the man’s house, which he admitted he had used to smoke methamphetamine two days previously.

The follow-up also led to the citation of a 70-year old man for driving with a suspended license, and also having alcohol in his residence, the he was not found to have any alcohol in his system.
