Authorities Seek Suspect Accused of Attempted Rape

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office Investigates Assault Case

A woman claims to have been abducted and nearly sexually assaulted in Palmdale after she accepted a ride home from the suspect. According to the initial report filed by police, the victim, a 74-year-old woman, was waiting at a bus stop outside of a local supermarket at approximately three in the afternoon when she noticed a man watching her from his car. He waved her over and convinced her to get in his car so that he could drive her home.

The woman claims that while he was driving her home, she began to notice what she referred to as 'advances', which began subtly but quickly grew in intensity. Soon she was rejecting his offers, and the suspect angrily drove her to an empty complex on 3^rd East Street, in the 39400 block. He ordered her to get out of the vehicle, and she refused.

Growing increasingly frustrated with her refusal to comply with his orders, the suspect allegedly began to beat the victim. He attacked her with both his fists and a blunt object that she was unable to identify. At this point, she claims, the elderly woman began to scream for help. This frightened the attempted rapist, causing him to flee the scene. She then left the area and boarded a nearby bus, later walking almost a mile to her home. She had sustained severe injury to her head and jaw during the assault.

Authorities say they believe the suspect to have been a Latino man, aged somewhere in his fifties. They have published a sketch of his appearance, along with a description of his car, and are searching for any evidence of his identity.
