Southern California Man Arrested After Casino Heist

Surveillance Footage Shows Man Walking Away With $1.6 Million In Chips

In a cross-state operation, enforcers with the Nevada Gaming Commission teamed up with Sheriff's deputies in Los Angeles to nab a suspect believed to have stolen a fortune in high value playing chips. The casino claims that no witnesses saw the suspect, but that surveillance cameras caught the man on film during the crime.

According to initial court documents filed after the arrest, the investigation began when Venetian, a luxury casino/hotel establishment in Las Vegas, discovered a large number of chips had gone missing. Examining security footage, investigators soon realized that an unidentified man had walked unnoticed into a restricted area and made off with the missing items.

Authorities claim that the heist took place on October 10th, just a few minutes after 6 a.m. that morning. The suspect is alleged to have quietly slipped into the back area of the casino, avoiding security personnel and employees, and taken at least one and a half million dollars worth of the high-value chips.

Deputies Arrest Suspect At Mother's House Near Los Angeles

After reviewing video footage that had captured several images of the perpetrator, law enforcement officials claim, they discovered that the man had a unique facial feature that allowed them to identify the suspect. Thanks a large fibrous growth on the man's left ear, police recognized the man as a 31-year-old Palmdale resident who had been arrested a year earlier in Las Vegas on a drug possession charge.

Coordinating with deputies in the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Departments, detectives were able to locate the man at his mother's home in Southern California on October 24th. He has been taken into custody at the LA County jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Nevada to stand trial. It is expected that the suspect will be charged with grand larceny and burglary, as well as other minor offenses.
