Skull Mask Not Enough To Hide Alleged Robber

Officials with the Fontana police department in Los Angeles County were able to track down and arrest a robber and his getaway driver without incident after the suspects escaped the scene of the crime. Reports indicate that authorities were tipped by a witness who wrote down the license plate of the getaway vehicle.

According to reports filed by the Fontana officers involved in the case, the robbery took place on the evening of Wednesday, October 3rd. At approximately 8:30 that night, an AM/PM gas station located on the 8100 block of Mulberry Avenue, nearly one and a half miles east of Interstate 15, was held up by a masked man with a gun.

Witnesses reported to authorities that the suspect, wearing a Halloween-themed skull mask that covered his face, walked into the store and demanded the contents of the register. He threatened to shoot the 58-year old employee, who quickly complied with his demands, giving him about $300 in cash.

Eyewitness Helps LA County Police Catch Gas Station Gunman

The gunman swiftly fled the scene, getting into a car driven by an accomplice and driving off. An eyewitness, however, noticed the commotion and wrote down the license plate of the Toyota sedan. When officials were given the information, they were able to identify the vehicle, which was registered in the area.

The sedan was spotted later that evening by a pair of undercover Fontana policemen, traveling westward on Interstate 10. The officers radioed for backup and began to follow the suspect's vehicle. When the alleged robbers stopped at another gas station in Irwindale, however, the undercover cops decided to take their chances and placed the suspects under arrest.

The two men, both 19 years old, were taken into custody without incident and are currently in the local jail awaiting a hearing. Officials say they are continuing the investigation, but believe the two men to be responsible after discovering a skull mask and a gun inside the sedan. No charges have yet been filed.
