Driver Verbally Berates Plainclothes Police

A group of law enforcement officers were carrying out undercover surveillance in an unmarked vehicle when they were nearly struck by an allegedly intoxicated roadster.

The investigators, officers with the Scranton city police department, were carrying out a surveillance mission in North Scranton in April when the incident occurred. While the car carrying the agents attempted to make a left turn, they narrowly avoided being rammed in the rear by a pick-up truck driving behind them. The driver then illegally swerved around them, passing over the dividing line and driving into oncoming traffic before drifting back to the correct side of the street.

Scranton Officers Discover Pot In Car

Abandoning their surveillance, the undercover policemen followed the pick-up while calling several nearby patrol vehicles for back up. After noticing his pursuers, the driver became enraged, stopped at a yellow light and put his car into reverse.

The truck came backwards towards the following plainclothesmen, stopping in front of them. According to witnesses, the driver exited his vehicle and began shouting at the policemen, asking why they were following him. The men identified themselves as officers of the law, but the suspect refused to believe them. After he allegedly attempted to grab one of the law enforcement officers, he was subdued and placed under arrest.

Investigators discovered a bag of what they believed to be marijuana in the vehicle, which later proved to contain THC. The man was later transferred to the Lackawanna County DUI Center.

He has been charged with possession of controlled substance and reckless driving, while police say they await results of a blood toxicology report to charge him with DUI.
