By The Law Offices of Christopher G. Porreca, P.C.  Jan. 27, 2014 3:10p

Earlier this month, news reports revealed that a drug distribution ring operating in New Jersey was dismantled after a ten-month investigation. The investigation was conducted by the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, and the New Brunswick Police Department. It resulted in the arrests of ten individuals now facing drug charges. The bust also resulted in the seizure of $130,000 worth of controlled substances, 22 illegal weapons, and large sums of cash used in the operation. Three of the men arrested were public employees which included a New Brunswick Housing inspector, an employee of the North Brunswick Department of Public Works, and a dispatcher with the Middlesex County Sheriff's Department.

The Housing inspector now faces charges of drug possession and distribution and has been suspended without pay from his city job. Drug charges in all of the cases range from possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school as well as 500 feet from a public building, distribution of cocaine, purchase and sale of illegal weapons, conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, and loitering to commit a controlled dangerous substance offense. Drug distribution paraphernalia and items were also seized along with a pickup truck used to distribute the illegal drugs. All of the cases are pending.
