Officer Investigated for Embezzlement

Officer Amanda Perry, on administrative detail after being investigated a year ago for reckless driving, is now facing potential embezzlement charges, officials told the Washington Post.

Perry reportedly falsified time and attendance reports as a way of defrauding the department of extra money. After being investigated a year previously for her involvement in an auto accident which lead to the death of a teachers assistant, Perry was assigned a desk job within the department. She was also charged with reckless driving, though never formally convicted.

This new investigation into her activities began when it was discovered that her reported time cards did not match the department's electronic records. Officers use an electronic ID card system to enter the building, allowing internal investigators to catch the discrepancy.

No Charges Yet Made By Investigators

Though the department has opened a formal investigation into the alleged embezzlement case, the attorney assigned to the case has yet to decide whether to press charges. "I'm reviewing the evidence on that and haven't made any determination," Attorney Raymond F. Morrogh told reporters.

The Fairfax Coalition of Police, the local law enforcement union, had recently welcomed Perry to their ranks, after she was elected to the board in November. When the executive board learned of the allegations, however, they promptly voted to remove her from her post.  Not long after being kicked off the board, Perry formally resigned from the police force.
