Man Arrested for Leaving Girlfriend’s Two-Year-Old at McDonald’s

Houston police arrested a man on Monday evening for charges of abandoning and endangering a child. The 32-year-old man, C.G., was reportedly caring for his girlfriend's two-year-old little girl and had taken her to a local McDonald's which had a children's "playplace". C.G., who is not the toddler's father, then allegedly left the child there for an hour or more. Other customers at the restaurant noticed the little girl and reported that it didn't look like there was anyone there looking after her. Police were called to the scene and the child was put in the care of child services until her mother could be located. C.G. arrived an hour after allegedly leaving the toddler there and police took him into custody. Arrested for a crime? Suspect Facing Possibility of Stiff Imprisonment Sentence

Accusations of child endangerment or child abandonment in the state of Texas can result in severe penalties if a conviction is obtained. According to Texas Penal Code §22.041 any person who has a child or children in their custody, care or control may be charged with this crime if they allow a child to be put in harm's way or if they intentionally abandon a child under 15 years of age. An alleged instance of this offense can bring felony charges which are punishable by 180 days in jail or up to 20 years in prison, up to $10,000 in fines as well as other penalties depending on the circumstances of the incident. Whether the charge is a state jail felony, third or second degree felony depends on whether or not the suspect intended on returning to the child, if a crime was committed in the child's presence (drug possession, manufacture, sales, etc. or other offense) and if the child suffered any physical or mental harm from the incident.
