Narcotics Suspect in Hospital after Being Shot by Police Officer

A Houston man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday night after a police confrontation. Houston PD officers arrived at a home around 8:30 pm on the south side of the city to serve an arrest warrant to an individual at the location. Police report that when they identified themselves as police officers serving a warrant for a narcotics arrest the suspect ran to the back of the house. Officers pursued the 38-year-old man and stated that he made several suspicious movements. The suspect, G.B., reportedly reached into the waistband of his pants in a motion that looked like he had a gun or other weapon. "At one point he turned suddenly toward the officer and the officer, fearing for his safety and that of his team who were inside the residence, fired at the suspect, who was struck," said an HPD spokesman. No officers or other individuals were injured in the incident but the suspect suffered a serious gunshot wound and was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. G.B. remained in the hospital on Wednesday but his current condition was not reported. Police say they found a pellet gun that was near G.B. when he was shot. Unspecified narcotics were also recovered from the home where the suspect was found. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the HPD Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
