Ecstasy Consequences in Collin County

By Zendeh Law Firm  Aug. 11, 2010 11:45a

While some states, such as California, have not taken any steps to specifically target MDMA (the drug more commonly referred to as "ecstasy"), in Texas, it has been placed under laws regarding explicitly scheduled substances. Texas has broken up controlled substances into different groups, allowing them to better organize penalties for the different drugs, and ecstasy has been placed in Group 2.

Simply possession of a controlled substance is no laughing matter and should be recognized as the serious offense that it is. For those who possess less than a gram, they will be charged with a state felony, which brings with it a minimum of 180 days of incarceration and a maximum of two years along with a fine anywhere up to $10,000. Penalties simply increase from there, with those who possess over 400 grams risking imprisonment anywhere from five years to life. Those who distribute and manufacture ecstasy face similar punishments, depending on the circumstances, although the minimum jail time is often much higher.
