Man Arrested on Several Charges after Police Chase involving Fatal Crash

A 26-year-old man was recently arrested by Santa Ana authorities after a dangerous vehicle pursuit. Police conducted a traffic stop after identifying a vehicle as belonging to a man, A.A., with an arrest warrant out on him. A.A. was wanted in connection to a number of charges including drug trafficking and weapons offenses. Officers attempted to pull A.A. over in his black SUV at about 6:00 in the evening near Olive Street and Plaza Street. The vehicle came to a stop initially but then reports state that A.A. rammed a marked police cruiser and then sped away. Police began to pursue A.A. but the chase did not go far before there was a serious wreck. A.A.'s large SUV sideswiped a minivan resulting in numerous injuries to occupants including a 12-year-old girl. The SUV then crashed into another vehicle which caused it to roll over onto its side. A.A. ran away from the scene on foot into a residential area. Police began conducting a search but were unable to find him initially. The little girl was taken to the U.C. Irvine Medical Center in Orange but her injuries were too severe and she died. Police used a K-9 unit as well as air support to try to locate A.A. but were unsuccessful. Just before midnight, however, police received a call from someone with a home in the neighborhood that was being searched and reported that a man had been hiding inside her house and had just ran outside. Police rushed to the location and found A.A. hiding in a backyard at a nearby residence. He was taken into custody without further incident. Charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, felony evasion and murder were added to the previous drug and weapons charges. Do not face felony charges on your own!
