Driver Charged with Child Endangerment and Manslaughter after Crash Claims Life of Six-Year-Old

A 20-something man was charged with serious offenses after a recent single car accident killed a six-year-old passenger. Reports do not indicate exactly why the man, K.E., was driving the little boy who was the only passenger but it was stated that he was a friend of the boy's mother. The accident occurred around 7:30 in the evening when K.E. was heading north on Prairie Avenue in a silver sedan. He was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed which was well above the posted 40 mph limit according to the police. Witness allege that K.E. and two other cars appeared to be weaving through traffic and may have been racing before K.E.'s car hit a curb on the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver apparently lost control of the car at that point and careened across four lanes before slamming into a light pole. The little boy was strapped into a child safety seat in the back seat but the force of the impact was hard enough to cause him to be partially ejected from the vehicle.

Both the boy and M.E. were rushed to the hospital but the child had suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead. M.E. was hospitalized for serious injuries but will be in police custody after his release. He has been charged with driving without a license, child endangerment and vehicular manslaughter. Police are also continuing to investigate the case to determine any possible involvement or negligence by the other cars described by witnesses.
