Rapper Pleads Not Guilty in LA Domestic Violence Case

By Tyler & Wilson, LLP  Sep. 3, 2013 10:55a

37-year-old rapper and actor Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent, recently pled not guilty to the two felony offenses against him. He has been charged with four counts of vandalism and domestic violence in connection with an incident that happened at his ex-girlfriend's house. The ex-girlfriend, D.N., and Jackson had been together for three years and have a child together. The incident itself occurred in late June when D.N. says Jackson came to her condominium. The two got into an argument about unspecified matters and then things apparently escalated and Jackson allegedly began destroying property. He reportedly broke furniture, a television, chandeliers and other items. D.N. said she locked herself in the bedroom but Jackson kicked down the door and injured her by kicking her. Police were called to the location and observed that over $7,000 of property had been damaged but Jackson had already left the condo. Charges were later assessed against the rapper and he entered his not guilty plea at his recent arraignment at the Los Angeles Superior Court. Make sure you have a skilled domestic violence lawyer on your side if you are facing the possibility of serious penalties for domestic battery, assault or abuse.

50 Cent Could Face Years Behind Bars plus Heavy Fines

The judge on the case sternly informed Jackson that he is not to come anywhere near his ex-girlfriend or make any contact with her in any form until the case is resolved. He was also warned not to possess any weapons or dissuade witnesses from testifying. If convicted, Jackson could be imprisoned for up to five years and ordered to pay over $45,000 in fines and fees. He is scheduled to reappear in court on the matter in early September for the pretrial hearing.
